Activity and professional title
I work as a freelance technical and scientific consultant in the field of industrial property rights and am concurrently in training to become a German patent attorney pursuant to § 7 of the German Patent Attorney Regulations (Patentanwaltsordnung, PAO). I have not yet been admitted to the patent bar and am therefore not yet a member of the German Chamber of Patent Attorneys.
The services offered on this website are not provided in the exercise of the patent attorney profession, but as technical consultancy. “Patent engineer” describes this activity but is not a professional title protected by German law. Specific professional regulations within the meaning of § 5 (1) no. 5 DDG therefore do not apply to this offering.
My services do not include legal advice or legal representation within the meaning of the German Legal Services Act (Rechtsdienstleistungsgesetz, RDG).
My work is limited to technical fact-finding, searches, patent engineering support and strategic advice on technical questions. I do not provide representation before the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), the European Patent Office (EPO) or before any court. For legal services I refer clients to admitted patent attorneys or attorneys-at-law.
The ongoing training pursuant to § 7 PAO does not alter this boundary: it confers no entitlement to provide legal services or to act as a representative.

Technical operations
Content and client data remain in Germany. A protective network sits in front of the server and intercepts attacks before they reach it; which data this involves is set out in the privacy policy.
- Web server: Hetzner Online GmbH, Nuremberg data centre (ISO 27001 certified).
- Document exchange: a private Nextcloud instance (
cloud.schalk-ip.de) running on own hardware in Garching. - Attack mitigation: Cloudflare Inc. (USA) as an upstream filter and tunnel; zero-trust principle with no open ports.
- E-mail: server location Germany (Hetzner Online GmbH).
- No third-party content: no fonts, scripts or images are loaded from third-party servers.
Dispute resolution
The European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform was shut down on 20 July 2025; Regulation (EU) No 524/2013 has been repealed by Regulation (EU) 2024/3228. A reference to it is therefore no longer given.
I am neither willing nor obliged to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board (§ 36 (1) no. 1 VSBG).
Liability for content
I am responsible for my own content on these pages pursuant to § 7 (1) DDG and the general laws. Under §§ 8 to 10 DDG, however, I am not obliged as a service provider to monitor transmitted or stored third-party information, or to investigate circumstances that indicate unlawful activity. Obligations to remove or block the use of information under the general laws remain unaffected; liability in this respect is only possible from the point in time at which a concrete infringement becomes known.
